This series is a visual essay on the Coal Bunder shipyard and its workers. Situated on Mumbai's eastern coast, the shipyard is a part of the city that will inevitably be redeveloped. While providing a lens to view an otherwise hidden pocket, these photographs echo the fading rhythm of labour and life as the city continues to evolve. Immersed in the sounds of ship breaking and the smell of metal welding, a certain tranquility emerges from within the chaos. While some ships arrive and depart with the tide, others become one with the soil.
